Lawton Bookworks serves one of Oklahoma's most distinctive communities, a city defined by its relationship with Fort Sill, the U.S. Army's oldest continuously active installation and home of the Fires Center of Excellence. The military history section goes deeper than most, with specialized collections on artillery development, field artillery tactics, and the history of Fort Sill itself, from its founding in the Indian Wars era to its current role training the Army's artillerists. The Comanche heritage section honors the original inhabitants of the Wichita Mountains region, with works by Comanche authors and historians documenting the tribe's warrior tradition and contemporary cultural renaissance. The thriller section is popular with the military crowd, and the family life section addresses the unique challenges of deployment, relocation, and military parenting.
